Time isn’t the problem—it’s how you prioritize it.
We all get the same 24 hours. Yet, some leaders manage to achieve extraordinary results while still having time for family, health, and personal growth. Meanwhile, there are others that despite endless activity, end each day ends being drained and unfulfilled.
The difference? Intentionality.
High-performing leaders don’t try to do everything. They master their time by choosing to do the right things. They align their calendar with their values, protect their energy, and say no to what doesn’t serve their mission.
Today, I want to show you how to take back control of your time using my Decision Filter Framework™
The Problem: Busy vs. Intentional
Do you ever feel like you’re running out of time, even for the things that matter most?
The endless meetings. The back-to-back responsibilities. The constant notifications. It’s easy to get stuck in “reactive mode,” where you’re always responding but rarely creating.
But staying busy isn’t the same as being productive. If you don’t filter your time, someone else will do it for you.
The Solution: The 3P Method + Decision Filter Framework
Time mastery begins with intentionality. I teach leaders the 3P Method:
- Plan Your Priorities — Identify the top 3 things that matter most this week.
- Protect Your Schedule — Block time on your calendar for those priorities before anything else fills it up.
- Perform with Purpose — Give focused attention when it’s time to execute, instead of multitasking or half-doing.
Personal Story: My Sunday Night Reset
There was a point in my career where I felt like I was always chasing time. I spent family time away from them during deployments. Meetings and endless responsibilities left little room for my family. There was no space for personal growth either.
Out of desperation, I created what I now call my Sunday Night Reset. Each week, I’d sit down and plan my top three priorities—not just for work, but for life.
One Sunday, I noticed I hadn’t scheduled time to help my wife with something important to her. That small adjustment not only made her feel valued. It also reminded me: time mastery isn’t just about productivity, it’s about living aligned with your values.
That shift changed everything. My weeks stopped running me, and I started running my weeks.
The New Problem: Life Happens
But let’s be real—priorities shift. Unexpected fires come up. Kids get sick. Projects change direction overnight.
So how do you stay focused when life throws curveballs?
Here’s my rule:
When life shifts, I just go back to my Decision Filter. I ask: Is this truly important to my mission, or just urgent noise?
If it’s important, I adjust. If it’s not, I release it without guilt. That filter has saved me from countless late nights spent on things that never mattered.
Why This Matters
Mastering time isn’t about control—it’s about alignment.
When you use your time intentionally:
- Leaders build resilient, focused teams who follow their example.
- Parentpreneurs stop living in constant burnout and create margin for family moments that matter.
- Executives increase productivity not by working more hours, but by aligning effort with impact.
Time is leadership’s greatest test. How you use it reveals what you truly value.
