Is work-life balance a myth? Maybe. But harmony? That’s within reach.
For my fellow high-performing leaders, executive decision-makers, and parentpreneurs—you know the drill. Early meetings, endless emails, late nights… and then trying to switch gears at home to be the engaged, present parent or spouse!? You know the struggle is real!
I’ve been there. I’ve worn the uniform for over 21 years serving this great country. Led missions overseas, faced combat zones, and ran medical ops on land and sea. No deployment taught me more than the day I had to leave home. I deployed for 6-7 months away from family, thousands of miles away.
That hit harder than any battlefield.
So today, let’s talk about how we stop just juggling and start living in alignment.
The REAL Problem:
Do you feel like you’re constantly juggling priorities, but still falling short where it matters most?
You’re not alone. Most leaders think if they just hustle harder, they’ll eventually create time for family. But leadership isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing the right things with purpose.
That’s where Work-Life Harmony comes in.

The Solution: FIVE Framework
Introducing the E-FIVE Framework™—a Navy Chief-inspired system to help you lead with intention and build real harmony between work and home:
E – Empower with Presence: Presence empowers people. Your team performs better when they know you’re fully with them. Your kids feel safer, seen, and loved when you show up fully.
F – Focus on Non-Negotiables: Know what truly matters. Is it dinner with your family? Is it your morning workout? Define your non-negotiables and guard them like mission-critical assets.
I – Integrate Your Schedules: Stop separating “work” and “life” like they’re in different lanes. Sync calendars. Let your family know your rhythm. Share your schedule so they can see where they fit.
V – Value Quality Over Quantity: Presence > Time. One fully present hour with your child or partner beats four distracted ones. Be intentional. Devices down. Eyes up.
E – Evaluate and Adjust: Weekly debriefs aren’t just for the battlefield—they work at home too. What worked this week? What didn’t? What needs to shift?
Leadership isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing the right things with purpose.
Story From the Field:
During deployments, I missed birthdays, first words, first time walking. Bringing home promotions and medals won’t make up for those times. My Family didn’t care about rank, what they needed was a deeper relationship.
After one tour, I made a new SOP at home: Dad-Daughter Days. Just me and my girls. No distractions. Just presence. Those moments changed everything. They rebuilt trust. Created joy. Gave me clarity.
That experience reshaped how I led my teams too. I started showing up with intentionality. I checked in with my junior sailors regularly. I was fully present during briefs and celebrated wins more often.
Same principle. Different battlefield.
New Challenges will come:
But what happens when life throws you curveballs? Work emergencies. Family crises. Burnout.
That’s when your intentional systems are tested. What I call the E-FIVE Framework™ becomes a lifeline. You don’t need perfection. You need rhythm.
Remember: flexibility doesn’t mean chaos. It means controlled recalibration.
