Are you living each day with purpose—or just going through the motions?
If you’re like most high-performing leaders or parentpreneurs I work with, your calendar stays full, but your soul feels empty. You get the job done. You take care of business. But there’s this gnawing feeling: “Am I really doing what I’m called to do—or just doing what needs to get done?”
You’re not alone. I’ve been there. And if we’re being honest, the difference between burnout and fulfillment often comes down to one thing: Alignment.
So today, I want to help you shift from drifting through your days to driving each one with purpose.
This isn’t theory. It’s practical. It’s intentional. And it’s rooted in the REAL Reflection Cycle—from the REALIZE Pillar of my Intentional Leadership System.
The Productivity Trap
“How can I align my daily actions with my purpose?”
Here’s the hard truth: most of us think we’re living with purpose because we’re busy. But busyness is not the same as intentionality.
You might be:
- Crushing meetings all day, but never moving the needle on your dream.
- Always on the go, but never grounded in what actually matters.
- Exhausted, not because you’re weak—but because your energy’s misaligned.
I call that the Productivity Trap: You’re working hard, but not toward what you were made for.
The REAL Reflection Cycle™
When I hit that wall a few years ago, I faced multiple challenges. I was leading in the military, raising a family, and building a coaching practice. At that time, I needed a system that would help me recalibrate.
That’s when I created the REAL Reflection Cycle:
- Recognize – What’s pulling you out of alignment right now?
- Evaluate – Are your actions serving your mission or just your to-do list?
- Adjust – What small shift can you make this week to live more intentionally?
- Launch – Put it into play. One intentional action. No perfection needed.
Example: If your purpose is to mentor emerging leaders, ask yourself: Have I reserved time this week? Have I connected with someone who needs that guidance? If not, you’re drifting. If yes, you’re leading.
Purpose is realized through small, repeatable, daily steps that align with your bigger mission.
Personal Story
I used to pride myself on being “everywhere for everyone.” Serving my unit, being present at home, growing a side hustle. But the truth? I was stretched thin.
That’s when I started using the REAL Reflection Cycle™ in my weekly review. I started aligning my calendar to my calling.
- I blocked time for family first.
- I cut tasks that weren’t mission-critical.
- I committed to being fully present at home and on the job.
The shift didn’t just make me more productive—it made me more peaceful.
Purpose Alignment Worksheet
“How do I manage distractions that derail my focus?”
Great question. Because even the best plans can get hijacked by emergencies, notifications, and noise. But here’s the deal: Distractions aren’t the enemy. Lack of clarity is.
When you know what matters most, it’s easier to say no to what doesn’t. That’s why I created the Purpose Alignment Worksheet—a simple tool to help you map your purpose to real, daily actions.
