Ever feel like you’re working hard every day but not actually getting anywhere? You’re checking off tasks, responding to emails, and handling meetings. But when you step back, you realize you’re no closer to your big goals than you were last month.
That’s because busyness isn’t the same as progress. And if your daily actions don’t align with your long-term vision, you’ll keep spinning your wheels instead of moving forward.
So, how do you make sure that each day counts?
The answer is intentionality—and it starts with a simple habit.
Your Goals Don’t Matter If Your Actions Don’t Align!
The One Habit That Changes Everything
Here’s what I tell every leader I coach: Start each day by identifying your ONE most important action.
Before the chaos of the day begins, pause for a moment. Ask yourself:
👉 What’s the single most impactful thing I can do today to move closer to my goal?
Write it down. Prioritize it. And get it done before distractions take over.
This daily habit acts like a compass—it keeps you focused, intentional, and aligned with your long-term vision.
How to Stay on Track When Urgent Tasks Take Over
Let’s be real—distractions and urgent tasks will always fight for your attention. So, how do you stay on track? Here are some ways that have help me stay on task and keep my focus:
1️⃣ Time-Block for Priorities – Schedule your most important task first, before checking emails or jumping into meetings.
2️⃣ Set Boundaries – Protect your focus by eliminating unnecessary distractions (notifications, social media, etc.).
3️⃣ Track Progress – Use a planner or journal to keep yourself accountable. Small wins add up to big results.
Take Ownership of Your Time!
For the next seven days, commit to this practice: Each night before going to bed, write down your top priority. Can’t decide on one? List your top 3. Make it the first thing you tackle for the next morning.
